Yesterday, I went over to finally introduce myself to the neighbor that I saw at the apothecary, the one who lives across from my lavender field.

I was quite surprised by how similar we were in many ways, especially how much respect and understanding we both offered. When I knocked, he opened the door with dough in his hands and flour on his fingers; he was making pizza. By some delicious twist of luck, that simple greeting at the door turned into an impromptu pizza celebration.

By the time I left, we had arranged for him to show me around town and to go to the river the following day.

So today, with some nostalgic music playing and the windows down, the ride around town turned into an absolute joyride. We eventually arrived at the heart and soul of the town — the river.

A slow swim felt wonderfully refreshing.

For late spring, the weather is perfect. And the river is calm with just the right depth. For me, this marks the beginning of summer this year.

For snacks, we have brought some cheese, nuts and a small watermelon. However, the swim was stimulating so we are now craving more than just snacks.

Right behind us there is a snack bar. Aside from drinks, they only have cheese toast or fries. We both went for both. After all, indulging in a bit of fast food felt just right, especially on a day like this.

All in all, I must say, today has been filled with nostalgia and I am starting to realize that nostalgia is actually therapeutic. I once read that nostalgia encourages the belief that things will get better because they’ve been good before. Today connected past and present into a steadier self.

I am back home.

On our way back, we came across a small yard sale by a house along the road.

So... I brought someone home. A tiny, ancient creature - a chill little gecko! They were giving her away with all her tiny belongings and I jumped on the opportunity! Her owner described her as slow, deliberate, and curious and I smiled because she'd fit right into my world and we'd vibe right away.

Creating little ecosystems has been my passion for as long as I can remember so now I've got a new project. On a side note, I will soon need to feed her some bugs for dinner and she only likes her dinner fresh and alive.

By the way, when I got my receipt from the snack bar, there was a little fortune printed on it:

“A surprise guest will soon cross your path.”

I guess Lolly was that guest, a guest of tiny proportions.
